96. Lesson WIP
Seran finally had a moment alone. Her duties were wearing her down quickly. She glanced at herself in the mirror before sitting on her bed.
"I am started to look old," she thought.
Her peace was interrupted when Roe and Prince warped into the room.
"How did you save him?" Roe demanded.
Of course, Seran thought, just who I need to see looking younger and stronger than me. "The same way you saved Red." She muttered, "Put em back together, atom by atom. Molecule by molecule. If you do it right you get the pathways into the brain right, as well. They get their memories and everything. You must have botched that up with Red cause you were emotional."
"Thank you, Seran." Roe replied as she turned to leave.
"Wait. I don't know what you are thinking but I get the idea of it. Fixing up one person is enough to kill you. It almost did. I don't even bother with it unless I mucked something up myself
Every year I came in for the examination. I always came out on top. I shone above the rest. I was the chosen one, primed since birth. At the end of each testing period Father would come up to me and say, "Excellent." For as long as I can remember he said this to me. That was all I needed. I rarely saw him throughout the year. So, I lived for that word. It is all I needed to feel complete.
Something changed three years ago, though. He said, "Good." Two years ago he frowned and said, "See you next year." Last year he didn't say anything at all. I could have let that get me down. I could have obsessed or freaked out but I didn't. Because I will show him this year.
